Obituary for Joe ""Jay"" Torres Jr.

Joe "Jay" Torres Jr., 76, died Saturday October 10, 2020 at St. Catherine Hospital. He was born January 11, 1944 in Garden City, the son of Joe C. & Lucy (Ojeda) Torres.

Joe was a lifetime Garden City resident. He proudly served in the US Army and returned home to marry Elizabeth Avila on May 29, 1971. She survives. He had worked as a audio/visual repairman for the school district for many years before retiring to spend time with his grandchildren. He was mechanically inclined and tinkered with cars and electronic gadgets. He enjoyed attending car shows, Native American Pow Wows, hot air balloon festivals and was dedicated member of the Kansas Honor Flight. As a long time volunteer for St. Catherine Hospital, his friendly smile greeted many who walked through those doors to visit sick loved ones. Other hobbies included exercising and going to the zoo. His wife children and grandchildren remember his love of photography and wonderful meals he prepared for them.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children-Adriana (Luis) Perez of Garden City, Jaclyn (Paul) Boles of Nashville, TN, Jamie (Carin) Torres of Lenexa, Kansas and Marisol Torres of Garden City; Grandchildren-Aaron Perez, Lily Perez, Noah Perez, Mia Perez, Mattie Boles and Tucker Boles & siblings-Victoria "Vicky" Mata of Lubbock, Texas, Rosita "Sandy" Tullis of Wichita Falls, Texas, & Anita "Annie" Asebedo of Garden City, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings -Anselmo (Sach) Torres, Margarita "Margie" Stamford & Mary Esther Torres.

Visitation will be 12:00 – 6:00 pm with Rosary at 5:00 pm, all on Wednesday October 14, 2020 at Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N 7th Street, Garden City. The family will hold a private Memorial Service at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Joe Torres Jr. Memorial Fund in Care of Garnand Funeral Home.
