Obituary for Lois M. Towns

Garden City- Lois M. Towns, 99, died on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at St Catherine Hospital in Garden City. She was born on July 31, 1920 at Ness City, the daughter of Ronald & Phoebe (Lamourex) Snyder. She married Harry B. Towns on September 3, 1939 at Scott City. He died on February 5, 2004.

Lois grew up in Ness County and graduated from Ness City High School. She then graduated from the Venus Cosmetology School in Wichita. She returned to Ness City to work in a beauty shop and, after her marriage they lived in Dighton and Shields where she was a cosmetologist for over 50 years. She and her husband lived in Aurora, Colorado for a time and spent winters in Phoenix. She moved to Garden City in 2006. Lois was a member and past Deacon of the First Christian Church in Dighton and attended the Community Congregational Church in Garden City. She also belonged to the As You Like It Club, Lane County Saddle Club, and EHU in Dighton. She was a 4-H Leader in sewing and cooking and enjoyed playing bridge, going to horse races and, especially attending and watching PBR Bull Riding events.

She is survived by 3 Daughters- Beverly (Don) Schmalzried of Harlingen, Texas, Billie (Deverne) Cartmill of Garden City & Becky Braswell of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Son-In-Law- Larry Foos of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Sister- Grace Hessman of Hutchinson, 10 Grandchildren, 18 Great-Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Daughter- Barbara Foos, Son-In-Law- Tom Braswell, Brother- Robert Snyder, 2 Sisters- Naida Moeder & Ona Merle Stecklein and in her later years companion- Nick Ortiz, Sr.

The family will conduct a graveside service at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 11, 2020 in Dighton Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Finney County Senior Center in care of Garnand Funeral Home. Condolences may be posted at www.garanandfuneralhomes.com
