Obituary for Matilda "Tillie" Bruner

Matilda “Tillie” Bruner, 84, died Friday, May 22, 2020 at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin, Kansas. She was born May 3, 1936 in Burbank, California the daughter of Samuel & Grace (Levy) Nissim.

Tillie grew up in the Burbank and Glendale, California area, and graduated from Glendale High School. On May 28, 1955, she married Robert E. Bruner in Glendale, California. They moved to Kendall, Kansas in the late 1950’s. a short time later, they moved to Lakin, Kansas in 1959 where they have lived since. A homemaker, Tillie also worked at the Downtown Café, Don’s Jack & Jill, and the Kearny County Library. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Lakin and enjoyed crafts, flower gardening, painting, and playing cards especially with her grandchildren.

Survivors include a son Bob Bruner of Wichita, Kansas; a daughter Barbara & husband Chuck Kirk of Scott City, Kansas; three grandchildren Dusty & wife Nicole Fanning, Brandy & husband Justin Yount, and Woodrow & wife Abby Fanning; two step-grandchildren Patrick & wife Abi Kirk and Andrew Kirk; and seven great-grandchildren Mariah Yount, Sarah Yount, Hunter Fanning, Gunner Fanning, Bristol Fanning, Calli Fanning, & Charles Kirk. Tillie is preceded in death by her husband Robert who died on November 30, 2000. She is also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters Adele Levine and Esther Seny.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The service may also be viewed via Facebook Live on the Garnand Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will follow at the Lakin Cemetery in Lakin, Kansas. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday and from 9:00 a.m. to service time on Tuesday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family suggests memorials given to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
